I work with a dual monitor system; 90% of the time, I'll have the current year 1040 open on Monitor A and the previous year 1040 open on Monitor B. I've been asking for a way to completely lock any year's file with a simple toggle switch for years, so that a locked return would just beep at you if you tried to make an entry; nothing doing, not even an acknowledgment of my repeated requests. It should be a simple program feature to add; I just don't understand why they haven't done it. The best solution I've found is to convert all the prior years to read-only files. They'll still accept data entry in read-only mode, but they flush it when you close the file. Still in all, it's far too easy to lose a half-hour of input time -- always at crunch time -- by entering to the wrong return.

The date on the return should not change when I open the tax return after it's been filed! If I need to go back into a tax return, maybe to print it to pdf, it should NOT automatically change the date to todays date! This is not just a nuisance, it is completely incorrect. I now have a tax return that I filed in April, which I just now printed to pdf and emailed out to clients banker, and it has a June date on it. This return was not signed in June. It was not completed in June. It was not filed in June.
Please correct this!!

I know that the Organizers can truncate social security number but please ADD the Same feature to Truncate the social security numbers on the tax returns.

Live in MA and we have a MA data security law to encrypt information!

To bypass emailing returns with SS#'s via email, we can email it without encryption IF the returns truncate (i.e. remove) the SS#'s, similar to how the tax organizers can be printed without the SS#'s!

Please ADD this feature since it IS a requirement for MA law! This would also comply with Federal privacy law!
Other states are adopting similar privacy laws!

It should be simple enough. Just add it as under "Options"!

Why hasn't anyone else spoken out about data security regarding tax returns?

I know my printer supports duplex printing. I use it often with other software programs I run. But I cannot use this capability with ProSeries because.. If I set my printer to duplex, it duplexes ALL PAGES of a printed return! 1-page forms and 2-page forms, it prints them all the same -- printing of every page, front and back. So Page 1 of a Schedule C might print on the back of a Schedule A, and Page 2 of the Sch C print on the front of the next page. Totally unacceptable. You can imagine what happens if you try to duplex a return with which you've set to print a cover letter and/or slip sheet!

Each form or schedule should print on its own page -- whether one or two sides -- so the return looks presentable, and indeed is presentable if mailing to the IRS. That, while still saving considerable paper. There are a lot of two-page documents in a typical return.

On the General Printing options, just like we now have a check box for "Print Page 2 Always", we could have an option to "Duplex Page 2 When Present". Then every single-sided form, schedule, letter, sheet, statement, worksheet, or note would rightly print on only the front side of a new page. But documents that have two or more pages would print those in duplex fashion.

It's not that hard to program into the software. And it would make a big difference for all who would like to use the feature.
